Introducing our Woodworking Fundamentals Journey
Amazing 🤩 workmanship. Extreme creativity 🤩
I always wondered about formal for woodworking education and was researching. This had good information on the intensive courses. My only question is these courses really don't allow much time for a job. Having to quit work for three months. For most people that would be hard. I was curious what could you do for work during that time or is there time for a side job?
Nothing on the elearning site on the foundations of finishing...
It's top of the page. IT is for me at least. finewoodworking.com/elearning
@@FineWoodworking Yup...there now. I looked a couple of times yesterday and it wasn't up yet. Thanks!
Really enjoyed the energy between these three intelligent, kind, curious people. Great questions and answers! I'll be thinking about this episode for a while 👍🏽👍🏽
Montana has custom made beer. Come on over when you have the time, people! :)
Awesome show! Very interesting insights
This is good to know, but I think that as you mention in 3:10 this applies well to a shop where you can have a bandsaw for each kind of blade you typically use. Less so to a home situation where we have one bandsaw and change blades according the project. In my admittedly limited experience, I can set any of my three blades parallel to the guide with the tracking adjustment only, avoiding to adapt each time the guide and table.
Thee exact video I needed. Thumbs up
Thanks.
Here’s an idea which I did in the family garage. My Dad had a wood bench where he welded up a steel hanger system that fits a bunch of good size steel metal drawers underneath the top. Filled with tools and the usual but there was one with the usual assortment of nuts bolts. What I did for $0 cost containers is take our spent qt. oil bottles (a nice rectangular size) and cut the tops off to a even height to fit the drawers. Then went and sorted various nut sizes out. Fine threads into one container. Various lengths of bolt sizes into short, med or long lengths into separate bins. Washers & lock washers. Much easier to find what you’re looking for. They happened to be yellow Penzoil bottles so just mark the 3/8”, 5/16” or 1/2” in permanent marker. Nice as each is removable, cheap and easily replaced.
Hey folks, We made a mistake and a couple of minutes got cut out at 6:05. The YT algorithm will frown upon us reuploading it. Head over to the website to the see the missing footage. Apologies. -Ben www.finewoodworking.com/2024/06/07/cabinet-shop-techniques-you-should-steal
Is the colour only surface or does it go deep into the wood?
Boring
We have a beautiful coffee table my Mum, Norma, was fortunate to purchase from you in the 1970’s. It’s still loved by our family. The craftsmanship is a piece that Art.
thanks for posting.
There's a weird cut at 6:05. Looks like a scene is missing.
Ack! That's what I get for trying a new program. Missed that... thanks. I'm going to reupload.
@@FineWoodworking I'm just glad 7:55 made the cut. Live demos all the way.
Awesome show!!!!
thanks
I wonder on the first part if you could just put a thin shim on the edges to lift the blade very slightly and miss that center. You could glue that in place.
I see someone mentioned similar down below but I got so excited I didn't read that til later.
You are missing the point. The reason anybody who wants to do this is because they dont have ~200$ to buy a semi decent router table. I dont know what drill press you have but it looks expensive. The tools for this table should be “ruler, square, screws, saw, pencils, router and router bits, drill/screw driver”.
Ye well having all that money on drill stand she’s probably got no money left
Does the wood need to be completely flat or some what flat?
0:53 what is the name of the tool used to split the log?
Awesome conversation! I’m an amateur beginner hand tool woodworker, and enjoy how much you guys bring a view to woodworking that I’m not familiar with!
Thanks for the help.I needed it.good job
I was interested in the topic but woodworking is more of a show me than a talk about situation. No video of the techniques. I scrubbed through just to see if any action shots - I guess they are all behind a paywall.
Amanda need a better mic.
I got 10 8’ LED lights from Amazon recommended by 731 Woodworks for $200. They are great.
I have seen many constructions with spoons but only you chose the right part of the wood. I know very well the difficulties of processing the branching of a trunk but the density of the wood at this point and the result give masterpieces.
shop lighting, more and lots LED equal to sunlight, with task lights as needed. as you will need raking light for finishing etc...
job me
Nothing beats the look of mahogany and a simple wax finish. No dyes or colour process needed. Can be expensive though.
Thank you.
Super useful work holding tips and so well presented - ten thumbs up!
The cubic system used in Europe is just for billing. You go your lumberyard, choose your planks which will vary in width most of the times, according to your project needs and then they will calculate the price by getting the plank's volume (length x width x thickness) and multiplying by the price. If you're in the know you'll be familiar with the cubic meter price of several species. You will also be able to get a ball park value of the wood you need for a given project and the average price for a plank if you often get the same sizes.
Bonjour, Est-ce que Melbourne Tool Company exporte vers la France ? Merci. Hello, Does Melbourne Tool Company export to France? THANKS.
Those Squares are measuring tools not marking tools.
This goning Nick wearing a Bohnhoff lumber shirt.
I appreciate you taking the time to demonstrate how to build a router table , I am not like you with the high end tool collection, drill press and a lot of space , I am a poor builder with a handicap, I won’t have the money to buy a drill press and all those fancy attachments. When I am in pain I try to make things in my make shift shop and I am very limited on my tool collection. I have a hammer and a drill maybe I can make a pyramid like they made in Egypt with my hammer and chisel. But I sure cannot make a router table . I’m thinking of the old Egyptians how they made great projects with a plum line and a peace of copper , that’s my style I don’t have twenty century electric tools , thank you kindly .
Whats the name of the sharp tool used at the 0:46 second mark? Thank you
Excellence. Great jigs, great explanation of their uses.
Would so love for MTC to make a mid sized shoulder plane.
Nice infomercial.
Thanks - Great ideas to get your shop working better. Hockey tape. Brilliant 👍
Here is a question regarding the tool steel. How does the HSS steel compare to the A2, O1, or Japanese white steel I am used to using? O1 is easy to sharpen can get very sharp but does not hold an edge like A2. The inverse is true for A2 to O1, holds an edge better than O1 but is more difficult to sharpen and doesn't get as sharp. The Japanese white steel holds an edge longer the either of the aforementioned, can get as sharp, but takes a long time to sharpen.
I am not sure why you think A2 can not get sharp. I think with a proper sharpening system there is no reason it cant be as sharp as any other tool steel
I must admit that I really appreciate these podcasts. it's like a handful of other woodworkers in my shop with me.
Thank You Sir.🎉
0:20 applies to a lot of things in life
Thank you , thank you. I have taken the time to align everything on the bandsaw, but it was still not cutting straight. This is really good information. I have ordered a carbide teeth blade, since the teeth are larger than the blade, it also helps this issue.
Excellent video. Have solved some of my problem areas, thanks Mike.
