I always wondered about formal for woodworking education and was researching. This had good information on the intensive courses. My only question is these courses really don't allow much time for a job. Having to quit work for three months. For most people that would be hard. I was curious what could you do for work during that time or is there time for a side job?

This is good to know, but I think that as you mention in 3:10 this applies well to a shop where you can have a bandsaw for each kind of blade you typically use. Less so to a home situation where we have one bandsaw and change blades according the project. In my admittedly limited experience, I can set any of my three blades parallel to the guide with the tracking adjustment only, avoiding to adapt each time the guide and table.

Here’s an idea which I did in the family garage. My Dad had a wood bench where he welded up a steel hanger system that fits a bunch of good size steel metal drawers underneath the top. Filled with tools and the usual but there was one with the usual assortment of nuts bolts. What I did for $0 cost containers is take our spent qt. oil bottles (a nice rectangular size) and cut the tops off to a even height to fit the drawers. Then went and sorted various nut sizes out. Fine threads into one container. Various lengths of bolt sizes into short, med or long lengths into separate bins. Washers & lock washers. Much easier to find what you’re looking for. They happened to be yellow Penzoil bottles so just mark the 3/8”, 5/16” or 1/2” in permanent marker. Nice as each is removable, cheap and easily replaced.

I wonder on the first part if you could just put a thin shim on the edges to lift the blade very slightly and miss that center. You could glue that in place.

You are missing the point. The reason anybody who wants to do this is because they dont have ~200$ to buy a semi decent router table. I dont know what drill press you have but it looks expensive. The tools for this table should be “ruler, square, screws, saw, pencils, router and router bits, drill/screw driver”.

Does the wood need to be completely flat or some what flat?

I got 10 8’ LED lights from Amazon recommended by 731 Woodworks for $200. They are great.

I have seen many constructions with spoons but only you chose the right part of the wood. I know very well the difficulties of processing the branching of a trunk but the density of the wood at this point and the result give masterpieces.

shop lighting, more and lots LED equal to sunlight, with task lights as needed. as you will need raking light for finishing etc...

Nothing beats the look of mahogany and a simple wax finish. No dyes or colour process needed. Can be expensive though.

The cubic system used in Europe is just for billing. You go your lumberyard, choose your planks which will vary in width most of the times, according to your project needs and then they will calculate the price by getting the plank's volume (length x width x thickness) and multiplying by the price. If you're in the know you'll be familiar with the cubic meter price of several species. You will also be able to get a ball park value of the wood you need for a given project and the average price for a plank if you often get the same sizes.

I appreciate you taking the time to demonstrate how to build a router table , I am not like you with the high end tool collection, drill press and a lot of space , I am a poor builder with a handicap, I won’t have the money to buy a drill press and all those fancy attachments. When I am in pain I try to make things in my make shift shop and I am very limited on my tool collection. I have a hammer and a drill maybe I can make a pyramid like they made in Egypt with my hammer and chisel. But I sure cannot make a router table . I’m thinking of the old Egyptians how they made great projects with a plum line and a peace of copper , that’s my style I don’t have twenty century electric tools , thank you kindly .

Here is a question regarding the tool steel. How does the HSS steel compare to the A2, O1, or Japanese white steel I am used to using? O1 is easy to sharpen can get very sharp but does not hold an edge like A2. The inverse is true for A2 to O1, holds an edge better than O1 but is more difficult to sharpen and doesn't get as sharp. The Japanese white steel holds an edge longer the either of the aforementioned, can get as sharp, but takes a long time to sharpen.

I must admit that I really appreciate these podcasts. it's like a handful of other woodworkers in my shop with me.

Thank you , thank you. I have taken the time to align everything on the bandsaw, but it was still not cutting straight. This is really good information. I have ordered a carbide teeth blade, since the teeth are larger than the blade, it also helps this issue.
